Mixed Mode Study Program

This course operates under a mixed-mode study program. You are enrolled as an online or distance study student but also have the opportunity to participate in professional face-to-face training sessions throughout the year.

While you study independently, you are encouraged to regularly check the professional training schedules that ISET PNG publishes on the official website:

https://isetpng.com/2025-whs-training-schedule/

As a Year 1 student under the School Leaver Program, you are invited to attend these professional sessions at no extra course fee. You only need to meet your own transport, meals, and accommodation during the training period.

During these sessions, you will train and study alongside professionals who bring real workplace experience. This allows you to see how safety systems, procedures, and teamwork operate in actual organizations.

At the end of each 10-day professional training, the industry professionals will graduate, while you will return to continue your study journey. You are welcome to attend subsequent sessions as well, since every participation gives you greater exposure and practical understanding.

By attending at least two professional sessions, you will gain significant insight and confidence to complete Levels I–III in WHS successfully. By that point, you will be ready for job interviews, workplace responsibilities, or to continue into Certificate IV and Diploma (Years 2 and 3).

Year 2 and Year 3 Progression

  • Year 2 – Certificate IV in WHS (10–12 months): Focuses on applying and monitoring safety systems, including projects at the team or departmental level.
  • Year 3 – Diploma in WHS (10–12 months): Focuses on leadership, strategic safety planning, and evaluating workplace health and safety performance.

Assessment and Support

  • Assessments are competency-based, meaning you receive either Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC).
  • Assessments are conducted following the principles of fairness, flexibility, validity, and reliability.
  • Ongoing academic support is available through weekly online sessions, WhatsApp, email, and phone communication. Trainers also monitor your monthly progress to ensure you stay on track.

Certification and Issuing

Once all units are completed and all course fees are paid, the final training report will be submitted to DODL–PNGUoT. Certificates are officially issued by the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) through the Department of Open and Distance Learning (DODL).
